Water Resistance Tests

Las pruebas de grados IP (Ingress Protection) son ensayos diseñados para evaluar el nivel de protección de los dispositivos y componentes eléctricos y electrónicos contra la intrusión de objetos sólidos (como polvo) y líquidos (como agua). Los grados IP se definen según la norma internacional IEC 60529.

IP Classification System

The IP code consists of two main digits:

• First Digit:

Indicates the level of protection against the ingress of solid objects and dust.

• Second Digit:

Indicates the level of protection against the ingress of liquids.

First Digit: Protection Against Solids

• IP0X: No protection.

• IP1X: Protected against solid objects larger than 50 mm (such as a hand).

• IP2X: Protected against solid objects larger than 12.5 mm (such as a finger).

• IP3X: Protected against solid objects larger than 2.5 mm (such as tools).

• IP4X: Protected against solid objects larger than 1 mm (such as thin wires).

• IP5X: Protected against dust (limited ingress).

Second Digit: Protection Against Liquids

• IPX0: No protection.

• IPX1: Protected against vertical falling drops of water.

• IPX2: Protected against falling drops of water with an inclination of up to 15 degrees.

• IPX3: Protected against sprayed water (sprayed up to 60 degrees from vertical).

• IPX4: Protected against splashes of water from any direction.

• IPX5: Protected against water jets from any direction.

• IPX6: Protected against powerful water jets.

• IPX7: Protected against temporary immersion in water (up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes).

• IPX8: Protected against continuous immersion in water (conditions must be agreed upon between the manufacturer and the user).
